Battle Of Crete
George Forty
Although a huge setback the fall of Britain's last foothold in the northeast Mediterranean in May 1941 was not a wholesale German success either. Heavy losses meant it would be the last time German paratroops were to be used for such an assault while the six week delay in launching the invasion of Russia materially affected progress on the Eastern Front. This book uses contemporary photographs and first-hand reminiscence to examine one of the most bitterly contested engagements of the early war years. 176pp. 191 photos. 10 maps

Dying for Saint-Lo: Hedgerow Hell, July 1944: Histoire book
Didier Lodieu
From 5 to 20 July 1944 American invasion forces ran into fierce resistance around the French town of Saint-Lô, an important railway and road communications center in Normandy. As well as the Heer divisions such as the Panzer Lehr, GIs had to fight the redoubtable paratroopers and Waffen-SS who made them pay a heavy price for each hedgerow and each village they managed to take.
A self-taught historian, Didier Lodieu is the author of several works on the Battle of Normandy, of which he is one of the foremost specialists in France. By going through unit logbooks, contacting veterans, and by conducting research in the field, Didier Lodieu gives us an accurate story of the Battle for Saint-Lo.

Forgotten Wings
Philippe Esvelin
This book, composed of three parts, first of all recalls the design and the manufacture of the gliders, the creation of the flying schools as well as the setting-up of the program of pilot training. The second part is interested in the use of the American gliders on June 6, 1944 in Cotentin by detailing all the missions in which they took part. The last part, as for it, is focused on the ignored role held by these same apparatuses at the time of the landing of Provence
This book does not forget to mention the parachutists combined at the sides of which the gliders took share with the engagements. You will find many photographs and new documents as well as testimonies of German, French and American veterans. 176pp. 350 b/w & colour photos. Large format. English Edition

Operation Freshman the Hunt For Hitler’s Heavy Water
Jostein Berglyd
In February 1943, the heavy water plant in Vermork/Rjukan, that Hitler needed for the making of the atomic bomb, was made useless by a combined British/Norwegian sabotage operation. This operation became a legend in history. What is less well known is the fact that there was an earlier attempt at sabotaging the plant in late 1942. This failed attempt is known in history as "Operation Freshman". This book is about the successful operation, but it is also a book describing the failed one: both what happened before the operation, and during the operation as well as the aftermath. It describes the planning, the German response and the horrible way the German forces treated the British Commandos involved in Operation Freshman. 190pp. 80 b/w ills. 5 maps

Operation Goodwood July 1944: A Corridor of Death

Operation Goodwood July 1944: A Corridor of Death
Perry Moore
Rommel and Montgomery were old foes since 1941. Now they faced off once again in Normandy. Operation Goodwood was the largest tank assault in the Normandy campaign, as over 700 tanks in three British armoured divisions attempted to bust out of the bocage country. After all, the objectives were only seven miles distant. Rommel, his forces armed with over 200 tanks including Tiger I and Tiger IIs, plus more than 75 dreaded 88mm guns, ripped apart Montgomery's plans. Soon the wheatfields ran red with blood and burned with hundreds of British tanks. There is much detail on the units involved from both sides, and the tactics employed, as well as numerous statistics and tables concerning weapon/tank armour effectiveness and other data. Includes first-hand accounts, orders-of-battle, much information concerning the individual units and their tactics, and extensive statistics regarding weaponry and armour effectiveness. Includes many previously unpublished photos. 176pp. over 150 photos. 4pp. colour artwork. Large format

Over The Battlefield Operation Goodwood
Ian Daglish
In this first book in a new series Over the Battlefield, the author describes the events of Operation Goodwood, July 1944, the dramatic attempted British armored breakout from the Normandy bridge-head. This was the greatest armored battle undertaken by the British during the Second World War. What is so special about this book is the discovery and use of superb aerial photos taken during the fighting by the RAF. This amazing imagery makes it possible to trace the course of the battle and to track the movement of the armored regiments and troops of both sides. The effect is sensational and the reader is able to follow history in the making. 272pp. 150 photos plus maps
