In January 1942, a Kampfgruppe (battle group) at the Eastern front is captured in the city of Cholm. A battle of encirclement begins which lasts for 105 days of fierce German defence against the ceaselessly attacking Red Army. After more than three months, Wehrmacht soldiers managed to drive back the Russians and rescue their Cholm comrades. The Battle of Cholm is, not as well-known as the famous battles of encirclement like Stalingrad and Demyansk. But the bravery shown by the Wehrmacht forces was not any less in Cholm than in the other places mentioned.
